Outdoor Recreation

Outdoor Recreation Program

Overview

The purpose of this program is to develop community and introspection through outdoor Education. Students will play an active role in preparing for trips and learning skills throughout the experience. The idea that the parts make up the whole will be a foundation for developing the idea of community and moving towards a common goal. The idea is that the community developed on trip will translate back into the classroom and more importantly the overall culture of CPS. Students will have the opportunity to go on a trip with their advisory group at the start of the year, as well as, several different types of trips throughout the year. Trips may include camping, backpacking, kayaking, rafting, climbing, biking, snowshoeing, and service learning.

Goals

  1. Students will become self-sufficient in all facets of preparing and executing a mindful, environmentally safe, and successful outdoor adventure.

  2. Students will utilize 21st century skills in order to be successful citizens, and more importantly leaders, in our global community.

  3. Advisory groups will build a stronger foundation and relational capacity.

  4. Mindfulness and self-reflection will be implemented prior to and during trips.

Opportunities

  • Students can earn a PE credit for participating in multiple trips throughout the year.
